Sip3 Star Research Gallery
One very important concept in science is the sharing information and ideas to improve thinking for all. In this section, we highlight a few exemplary research projects.
We profile student teams at each age level whose overall research was strong. Be sure to look at their careful journal notes and datasheets.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Sisters Middle School - Team 17 (Spring 2005)
HIGH SCHOOL: Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts - Team 4 (Spring 2006). Be sure to look at their excellent research summary in the PowerPoint presentation.
COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY: Emporia State University - Team 4 (Fall 2005)
The topic for these star projects was the Wonder of Seeds. A new research topic, the Power of Sunlight, has been in development. See the research during the trial last spring conducted by Emporia State University - Team 2 (Spring 2006).
Please remember, a research project is never perfect. There are usually strengths and weaknesses in different parts of the research. Below we shine the spotlight on high school projects that are outstanding in particular areas.
ASKING A TESTABLE RESEARCH QUESTION: The Bush School - Team 6 (Spring 2005) looked closely at their seeds. How did the variation observed lead them to a very interesting research question?
COLLECTING DATA: Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts - Team 2 (Spring 2006) measured ten plants in the control and treatments, then calculated the average lengths. Why is important to record measurements on more than one plant?
COMMUNICATING: Bishop Dwenger High School - Team 7 (Spring 2006) had a lively conversation with their scientist mentor. What does talking about science add the science community?
