Scientific Inquiry through Plants (Sip3)
Sip3 is an innovative forum allowing students to discover biological core
concepts through hands-on inquiry projects coupled with online science
mentorship from plant scientists.
The Botanical Society of America has partnered with science education researchers
and K-16 educators to develop a web-based scientific learning community.
Our overarching goal is to assist in the improvement of scientific literacy
for the next generation of students, scientists, and citizens. We aim
to advance an understanding of the nature of science while fostering
an interest in, and appreciation for, plants. Three basic concepts guide
the project:
- Scientific inquiry and the wonders of doing real science
- Peer-to-peer problem solving
- Mentorship and support for scientific inquiry from subject matter experts
